Simple thoughts team organised Elocution and Debate competitions at Rosary Covent School, Abids on 14th July,2008. The main purpose of this event was to make children think about general topics, which may not be in the realm of their textbooks. We wanted the children to come up with some innovative solutions for issues like global warming and the children did not let us down.

There were around 30 participants for the competitions and an audience of 100. The topics for elocution were Global warming : How to control it, Modern trends in indian traditional culture and the topics for debate were Experience vs Expertise in politics and Public vs Private transport system. The girls tried there best and we had two competitive debates. It was great to see a girl speak about the recent discovery about the cow burps leading to global warming. It was an event which encouraged the children to talk about topics which concern everyone.

We decided the winners of the competition based on the following criteria: Content, Body language, Usage of the Language.

Elocution:

1st Prize Jeena Rachel Cherian class- X-A Modern trends in Indian traditional culture

Debate:

1st Prize Hegal Thomas class- X-C Experience vs Expertise in politics

2nd prize Kopal Gupta class- IX-E Public vs Private transport system
