A half an year ago, no one might have expected that the Indian Premier League(IPL), proudly called ‘The pride of Indian cricket’ would be held at a place almost half way round the earth from India. But it happened. It was discussed, in fact became a hot topic for argument, and lo we have the IPL in South Africa………..
Now the question is ‘How much has this shift affected the Indian people?’ Hearing of India the first image a person new to India conjures up in his mind is that of rags. So firstly taking into account the poorer sections of our country- all the dreams of earning the highest profits of their lifetimes that vendors might have dreamt must have been shattered by one decision……….
IPL is an event which brings together people of all communities and of all ages. Here we can see an year old toddler lying comfortably in the lap of its grandparent watching in amusement the bursts of energy surrounding him/her. So have the Indian people been deprived of the golden opportunity of breaking the communal barriers which have been literally haunting our country since ages?
Some people who have positive thinking rushing through their veins would state two positive effects of this IPL shift-
Firstly, this shift has saved the thousands of crazy Indians who would have rushed to their nearby stadiums, from a further slump during ‘The economic recession’.
Secondly, South Africa being a much cooler place than an ovenly India has definitely avoided the chances of reduced efficiency of players, especially the foreign stuff from cooler parts of the globe……….
‘Have these positive effects outweighed the negative ones?’- This is a question left for analysts to decide. Meanwhile we cannot do anything but just sit at home with a pop corn packet in one hand and enjoy the fireworks being provided by the players of different franchises, always hoping that the next IPL will be held keeping in mind the best interests of the Indian public
